The United States of America began by arguing and we are still fighting tooth and nail with each other to this day. Before and after becoming one great nation under God, we disagreed about every aspect of how this country should take shape.

The election of our first president was an easy choice. Face it, George was a shoo-in to win. While under Washington’s 7 1/2 years of leading the Continental Army, we were able to defeat the might of the British, declare victory, and our independence.

Not only did George Washington set the 2-term presidency he was never affiliated with a political party moreover, despised partisan politics. Oddly, every president since Washington has been affiliated with a party. Our second President, John Adams was a member of the Federalist Party.

The 3rd president, Thomas Jefferson was the original Republican. He and James Madison founded the Republican Party, (retroactively called the Democratic-Republican Party, a modern term created by modern historians and political scientists). I’m sure there were plenty of mud-slinging debates and back-stabbing ploys for these forerunners of American Politics.
